New Exhibits Coming to City of Reno’s Art Galleries

Three new exhibits will be on display at galleries operated by the city of Reno from December 28 through February 5. Admission to these galleries is free. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

  • Metro Gallery (City Hall, 1 East First Street) – “Nevada Jewels: Prints and Paintings,” is an exhibition of work by local artist Amelia Currier that includes both original paintings and prints completed within the last year. Currier’s work is situated somewhere in the realm between realism and abstraction. She deconstructs representational forms as a means of evoking spiritual and metaphorical imagery. Her work uses found objects, both natural and manufactured.
     
  • Gallery East & Gallery West (McKinley Arts & Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive) – “University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Art Candidates Invitational Exhibition” The City of Reno invites everyone to attend this exhibition of work from the candidates for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at the University of Nevada Reno. These Local Artists will exhibit their newest works which will culminate in their Thesis Exhibition and Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. The diverse works on exhibit include painting, print, photography, ceramics, and sculpture work by artists Kelly Peyton, Nathan Clark, Kelci McIntosh, Ali Sullivan, Ashley Westwood, Tanya Gayer, Jane Kenoyer, Rachel Armstrong, Thaison Kawal, Audrey Love, Ashley Westwood, and Tanya Gayer. An artist’s reception is scheduled for January 28th.
  • Southside Gallery (Southside Cultural Center, 190 East Liberty Street) – “A Painting Kaleidoscope of the West,” Local artist Mike Bond will be exhibiting his most recent suite of paintings. This exhibit contains a unique mixture of inspirational landscapes from colorful textured desert scenes to the wonderfully scenic mountain areas and the lakes that lay therein. Bond has been a resident of Southern California and Nevada, spending his time in these environments has evolved into a fascination with the desert landscape, roads, and places less traveled.
