City recognizes JoAnn Elston’s tireless work with kids.

Many people know JoAnn Elston from their years in grade school or a 4-H group. Others know her from the University of Nevada, Reno. Reno resident JoAnn Elston has helped more than 2,000 children through the years.

This week the Reno City Council honored JoAnn with a proclamation naming December 16, 2009 as JoAnn Elston Day.
JoAnn recently retired after 35 years of volunteer service with the 4-H organization. Before that, she taught at Echo Loder Elementary School during her 26-year career in the classroom. In 1970, she was selected as the Outstanding Nevada Teacher of the Year.
JoAnn and her husband Jim are members of the UNR Foundation. She served as President of the University of Nevada Alumni Association and played a major role in helping save the Universitys Marching Band when budget cuts threatened the program.
